Selam Magazine takes a look at their success as the duo celebrate their 10-year anniversary.

When it comes to transporting listeners to a whimsical world of musical delight, no duo does it quite like Polo & Pan. This French musical phenomenon consists of Paul Armand-Delille (known as Polo) and Alexandre Grynszpan (known as Pan), who have seamlessly blended their diverse backgrounds and musical styles to create a mesmerizing sound that has captivated audiences worldwide. The pair emerged a decade ago as a refreshing embodiment of the classic French electronic sound that took the world by storm in the late 90s.

Polo & Pan's music can be best described as a fusion of electronic beats, dreamy melodies, and nostalgic samples. Drawing inspiration from various genres such as electro-swing, folk, and world music, their tracks emerge as a harmonious concoction of infectious rhythms and enchanting vocals. Their ability to seamlessly blend vintage soundscapes with contemporary electronic beats results in a unique listening experience that transports listeners to a place of pure musical euphoria.

The duo rose to prominence with their breakout track "Plage Isolée" in 2014, which quickly gained popularity and propelled them into the limelight. The song's catchy beats and infectious chorus captured the hearts of listeners, reinforcing their signature style and paving the way for their subsequent successes. One of the aspects that sets Polo & Pan apart is their remarkable ability to take listeners on an auditory journey around the world. Their tracks are infused with a sense of wanderlust, evoking images of sun-soaked beaches, bustling marketplaces, and vibrant cultural landscapes. This global influence is evident in songs like "Dorothy," which features Indian-inspired rhythms, and "Nanã," which incorporates Brazilian melodies. Polo & Pan not only create music, but they also create sonic snapshots of faraway places that ignite the imagination.

Evolving Their Sound

With their second album, Cyclorama, released in 2021, the duo have sought to further define their unique sound. The album emerged from 30 demos, ideas spawned while on tour for their debut album, "Caravelle". In their new record, they wished to retain the cinematic and playful sound they had cultivated but also aimed to explore new territories.

Instrumental Innovations

One significant evolution was the incorporation of vintage instruments like the Rhodes and Minimoog, famously used on Air's 1998 classic "Moon Safari". Polo & Pan also acquired a 1981 Trident mixer, applying its unique effects to their compositions. Despite this new equipment, they aimed to maintain the sonic essence they established with "Caravelle", though "Cyclorama" boasts more layered analog synthesizers.

A must-see on stage

Polo & Pan's live performances are a testament to their passion for creating a truly immersive experience for their audience. Armed with an array of instruments and a visually stunning stage design, their live sets transcend the boundaries of a typical concert, transforming into a whimsical spectacle. Their energy and charisma on stage are contagious, captivating audiences and leaving them with memories that linger long after the music fades.

The duo graced the stage at Susona in July and their electrifying performance left all in attendance captivated, as the contagious beats intertwined with dreamy melodies transformed the venue into a pulsating fairyland.
